ABOUT

We are the 5 star Bournemouth University Climbing Club, run by students for students. You don't need to have any experience to join, climbing is a fun sport for everyone! Climbing is flexible - our sessions are drop-in - you don't need to come to every single one or for the full amount of session time. We welcome students and staff from BU and AUB. We have won several awards over the years at the SUBU Activities Awards 'Most Improved Club', 'Club with the Best IDEAs' and 'Club of the Year'

We currently boulder (short walls, no ropes) on Wednesdays at 5-7pm and Saturdays 6-8pm at The Project Climbing Centre in Poole, where club members get a discount entry rate of £4 per session (half price entry).

We also top rope and lead climb at Bournemouth Climbing. The club times are Tuesdays 7-10pm and is discounted to £3.50 (CASH ONLY) per session for club members. We don't all meet every week at this climbing center, but feel free to post in the Facebook group to find a buddy to belay with! We have equipment which can be lent to members for free at these sessions. To climb at Bournemouth Climbing center you need to pass their test which consists of harness fitting, knot tying (Figure-eight knot) and belaying. If you don't know how to rope climb - not to worry! There are rope climbing courses in which you will be taught the basics so you can rope climb competently.

We organize and run climbing trips all year round to popular indoor climbing centers around the country, Calshot, Boulder Shack, Reading Climbing Center and hopefully some new centers. We also conduct outdoor excursions to Winspit and Portland for fun outdoor climbing days over the weekend.

As a club we compete in SWUBS (South West Universities Bouldering Series) and BUCS (British Universities & Colleges Sport). This gives members the chance to test their bouldering skills against local and national clubs and a great way to meet new climbers.

We organise and run climbing trips to large popular indoor climbing centres around the country, as well as conduct excursions outdoors when the weather is nice - with equipment hire included! To be eligible to go on trips outdoor you will need to purchase an outdoor membership which includes BMC insurance.

Hope to see you climbing!

Before the deed comes the thought.

Before the Achievement comes the dream.

Every mountain we climb, we first climb in our mind.
